AuntMinnie.com Business & Industry Radiology Insider

Dear Business and Industry Insider,

One of the more remarkable stories at this year's RSNA meeting in Chicago was the rapid proliferation of computer-aided detection technology. Dozens of vendors showcased CAD software for a variety of applications, from mammography to lung CT to coronary calcium scoring.

One firm in this new wave of CAD companies has actually been riding the surf for some time. Riverain Medical made its RSNA debut as the new incarnation of Deus Technologies, which first launched its CAD software for radiography-based lung applications several years ago.

Riverain is backed by an investor-led group that purchased Deus in July 2004, and is relaunching the company with a focus on analog and digital radiography CAD for detection of lung cancer. To learn all about them in this issue's Insider Exclusive, click here.

When you're done reading about Riverain, take a look at a new white paper we're highlighting that compares radiology's shift toward PACS to the consumer photography market's embrace of digital photography.

The article concludes that the tipping point in favor of digital occurred when methods were developed to support widespread image sharing. Find out how this is similar to the use of digital imaging in radiology by clicking here.

As the year draws to a close, I'd like to thank everyone for their support in 2004. Here's wishing you and yours a happy and prosperous 2005.
