Valleylab, a division of Tyco Healthcare Group of Mansfield, MA, reported that it has acquired Vivant Medical, a Mountain View, CA-based developer of microwave ablation medical technology.
Vivant's VivaWave microwave ablation system, indicated for soft-tissue treatment, has been in successful clinical applications since late 2004, and the company expects to commercially release the product soon, according to Tyco.
The transaction is valued at approximately $66 million cash at closing, with an additional amount of up to $35 million to be paid in the future based on achieving certain milestones, Tyco said.
