Growth in the U.S. helped to offset market pressures in the European and Japanese markets, as GE Healthcare posted gains in both revenue and profit in the third quarter of 2011 (end-September 30).
Healthcare revenues in the third quarter increased 9% to $4.3 billion, compared with $3.9 billion in the third quarter of 2010. The healthcare segment's profit advanced 5% to $608 million, compared with $581 million in the same quarter of 2010, GE said.
For the nine-month period, revenues rose 10% to $12.9 billion, compared with $11.8 billion in the same period of 2010. Nine-month profit climbed by 6% to $1.85 billion, compared with $1.74 billion in the first nine months of 2010.
In addition, third-quarter equipment orders at GE Healthcare increased 13% to $2.6 billion compared to the third quarter of 2010, according to the company.
