A Toronto man discovered with 54,000 x-ray films that he stole for their silver is expected to plead guilty, as reported by the Ottawa Citizen.
Billy Demitro posed as an employee of an environmental recycling company picking up x-rays that were to be destroyed. He could have gained between $7,000 and $10,000 for the silver contained within x-rays he picked up from a dozen medical imaging labs in Ottawa and beyond, the Citizen said.
He was arrested February 22 by the Ontario Provincial Police after a technician from a lab called police after Demitro tried to pick up old x-ray film. He pleaded guilty to a single count of fraud under $5,000 for obtaining the x-rays by deceit, and he is expected to plead guilty at his sentencing hearing on June 7 to additional charges of possession of property obtained by crime, according to the Ottawa Citizen.
