Susan G. Komen is applauding Sen. Roberta Lange (D-Las Vegas, NV) for working with the organization in introducing legislation to remove financial barriers to breast imaging services.

The legislation would remove financial barriers to imaging that can rule out breast cancer or confirm the need for a biopsy. It would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for diagnostic and supplemental breast imaging when medically necessary.

A Komen-commissioned study found the costs to patients range from $234 for a diagnostic mammogram to more than $1,021 for a breast MRI, potentially preventing individuals from accessing needed imaging services.

Lange in a statement said the legislation would help diagnose breast cancer earlier and ultimately save lives.
