U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-OH) on July 25 introduced the Imaging Services Price Transparency Act, legislation that would increase transparency in health care for patients.

The proposed bill would require hospitals and other medical providers to make public the cost of imaging services, such as x-ray, MRI, and CT scans, and is included in the Ways and Means Committee's Health Care Price Transparency Act, which is intended to lower costs and increase transparency in health care, according to a news release.

With healthcare costs skyrocketing across America, the legislation will make it easier for consumers to know in advance the cost of an x-ray or CT scan, according to Carey.

"This will go a long way to ensuring that hardworking Americans are not blindsided by medical costs," he said.
