Bridging the gap between CR and DR

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

So by now we all understand that computed radiography (CR) and digital radiography (DR) are complementary technologies, and that each has a role in the healthcare enterprise. But the two systems won't automatically cooperate in your mixed CR/DR environment.

Successful integration of CR and DR can require a major investment in both troubleshooting and system implementation, according to a presentation at this week's American Healthcare Radiology Administrator's (AHRA) meeting. Staff writer Jonathan S. Batchelor is on hand in San Antonio to report for our Imaging Center Digital Community.

The images can have different densities and resolutions, as well as different DICOM header settings, hanging protocols, and window and level settings. If the CR and DR images are significantly different, then a facility may need to conduct standardized testing to ensure more consistent results. Find out how to get the job done by reading the article, available by clicking here.

You'll also find other stories from the AHRA show in the community, like a how-to piece on negotiating the best service contract for your facility, and how emerging medical imaging technologies are affecting patient management.
