A bill that would require disclosure of physicians' financial interest in imaging services has been introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Medicare Imaging Disclosure Sunshine Act of 2008 (H.R. 6821) is companion legislation to a similar bill introduced last month in the Senate by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA), according to the American College of Radiology (ACR) of Reston, VA. The House bill was introduced by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY).
Both bills would amend the Stark law banning physician self-referral to require doctors to disclose their financial interest in imaging services provided through the law's in-office exception. The legislation would also require physicians to give patients a list of alternative imaging providers in the area.
