The boards of directors of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Center for Healthcare Information Management (CHIM) are seeking member action to unite the two organizations by year-end. From now until late June, all CHIM and HIMSS members will receive further details about the possible reunification and will have opportunities to provide their comments.
From late May until early June, a series of focus group discussions will be held for CHIM members at locations throughout the U.S. During the third week of June, HIMSS members will receive a ballot to vote on amending the bylaws to permit organizational members. Following a 30-day balloting period, the results are expected in late July.
CHIM was founded in December 1986 and operated within the structure of HIMSS, which operated within the American Hospital Association (AHA). In January 1990, the organizations became independent, but maintained collaborative relations through operating agreements.
