The American College of Radiology (ACR) has amassed 202 bipartisan cosponsors for HR 3269, the Diagnostic Imaging Services Access Protection Act.
HR 3269 would repeal the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) mandated payment reduction to the professional component of Medicare reimbursement for multiple diagnostic imaging services administered by the same physician, to the same patient, at the same session.
The multiple payment cut affects the most vulnerable of patients, such as those with severe trauma or with cancer and other serious illnesses which require multiple imaging procedures, said Dr. John Patti, chairman of the ACR board of chancellors.
Congress must address multiple issues by the end of this year, including legislation to offset a 27% reduction in Medicare physician reimbursement due to the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. ACR will continue to work with House leaders to move HR 3269 forward, the college said.
