The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) today thanked 17 members of Congress for delivering a letter to House leaders warning about reimbursement cuts to medical imaging.
Written by Reps. Jim Gerlach (R-PA), Gene Green (D-TX), and 15 other members from both parties, the letter to the House leadership warns that further cuts to imaging reimbursement could threaten access to imaging, imperil seniors, and threaten manufacturing jobs.
Recent data show that utilization has declined over the past two years, confirming that imaging is among the slowest-growing categories in Medicare's fee-for-service program, MITA said. The signatories to the letter recognize the importance of relying on the most recent available data for decision-making, and should be applauded for fighting to protect access to imaging for Medicare beneficiaries, the organization added.
The letter urges policymakers to pursue policies that promote both patient access to medical imaging technologies and job growth in an industry that provides critical medical equipment to the U.S. It also notes that there are ways to cut Medicare that do not threaten seniors' access to high-quality care and threaten manufacturing.
