The American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) have published a free handbook that examines the role of capitation of radiology services.
As healthcare reform unfolds, both federal and private payors are exploring alternate payment methodologies to the traditional fee-for-service system, including capitation, whereby physicians or multispecialty groups are paid a fixed payment per member, per month, to provide care for all the members in the plan, ACR said.
The new Capitation Handbook is an updated version of Risk Contracting in Managed Care: A Handbook for the Diagnostic Radiologist, prepared in 1995 by the ACR's Managed Care Task Force, the organization said.
