The American College of Radiology (ACR) has named Dr. William Thorwarth Jr. to the post of chief executive officer, effective April 2014.
Thorwarth has previously served as ACR president and chair of the ACR Economics Commission. He has also been a member of the ACR Board of Chancellors, and most recently he served on the RSNA Board of Directors. He has been a private practice radiologist in North Carolina for nearly 30 years. He also chaired the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT editorial panel and served as the ACR's advisor to the AMA Relative Value Update Committee, ACR said.
Thorwarth has held leadership positions in various medical organizations, including RSNA, the North Carolina Radiological Society, and the RSNA Research and Education Foundation. He succeeds longtime ACR CEO Dr. Harvey Neiman, who is retiring after more than 20 years of service to the ACR as board chair and later as CEO.
