SIR taps new president, bestows 3 gold medals

The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) has appointed a new president and conferred three of its gold medals on interventional radiologists for their contributions to the subspecialty.

Dr. Suresh Vedantham of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis assumed the office of president on March 7, during the society's annual meeting this week in Washington, DC.

The society also bestowed three gold medals during the meeting, to the following recipients:

  • Dr. Katharine Krol, a retired interventional radiologist and former president of SIR
  • Dr. Jeanne LaBerge of the University of California, San Francisco
  • Dr. Gao-Jun Teng of Zhongda Hospital and Southeast University in Nanjing, China

SIR's gold medals acknowledge distinguished and extraordinary service to SIR or to the discipline of interventional radiology, the society said.
