Canon Medical Systems USA and the AHRA have awarded 64 grants worth $620,000 as part of their 10th annual Putting Patients First program.
Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston received the Integrated Delivery Network grant to add lighting and a cinematic projector for viewing by pediatric patients and their parents to help relieve anxiety during imaging scans and possibly eliminate the use of anesthesia.
In addition, pediatric grants were awarded to the following:
- Altru Health System in Grand Forks, ND, to create educational materials on the imaging process for families, enhance room appearance with lighting and artwork, and provide wall and ceiling images for pediatric patient comfort
- Children's Hospital and Medical Center Foundation in Omaha, NE, to expand its 3D printing program for physicians to treat pediatric heart defects
- Children's Hospital Los Angeles for a study on the role of MR cholangiopancreatography after transabdominal ultrasound to reduce ionizing radiation for pediatric patients
Patient care and safety grants were given to the following:
- CARTI Cancer Center in Little Rock, AR, to fund blanket warmers for all patients undergoing exams in cool imaging rooms
- Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, KS, to purchase a portable ultrasound unit for its outpatient clinic and obstetric and emergency departments
- UT Health: The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston to create educational videos for patients prior to imaging
