Canon Medical Systems USA and the AHRA said they have awarded up to $55,000 in grants to seven healthcare facilities for the 11th annual Putting Patients First program.
The seven winners will use the funds for education and training programs to enhance the patient experience and safety in diagnostic imaging, according to Canon. One integrated delivery network received a grant of up to $10,000, while six other facilities received grants of up to $7,500.
The grant winners are as follows:
- Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia: The integrated delivery network (IDN) will use the funds to help create advanced software for the automatic detection of intracranial hemorrhage on noncontrast brain CT images.
- Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, NE: The critical access hospital will purchase immobilization systems, enabling pediatric patient positioning that is safer for patients and technologists.
- Nemours Children's Hospital in Orlando, FL: The hospital will use two new MRI minimodels and play-based therapy to reduce sedation and costs while minimizing pediatric MRI scanning time.
- University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore: The institution will use the grant funds to provide an electronic patient tracking board and waiting room care card to patients and their loved ones.
- Inova Alexandria Hospital in Alexandria, VA: The hospital will invest in a Hausted mammography/biopsy chair that includes a hydraulic base for raising patients to the necessary height to perform the exam and to accommodate patients who become distressed during the invasive procedure.
- Carti Cancer Center in Conway, AR: The facility will purchase an i-Stat unit to improve the patient clinical pathway with point-of-care lab testing.
- University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine/Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL: The institution will use the funds for a research study to test the effectiveness of 3D printing on patient understanding of their diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and to help improve management of the condition.
