Dr. Ruth Carlos of the University of Michigan has been named president of the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) for the 2019-2020 term.
Carlos was tapped as president during the society's annual meeting in Honolulu. She succeeds Dr. Philip Costello, who was ARRS president for the 2018-2019 term.
Carlos is a practicing diagnostic radiologist who co-directs the Program on Women's Healthcare Effectiveness Research (PWHER) in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School. She also holds appointments at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center and is a member of the Institute for Healthcare Policy & Innovation. She was named vice chair for the 2017-2018 term for the University of Michigan's faculty governance system.
Carlos last year was named editor in chief of the Journal of the American College of Radiology. She is also a former president of the Association of University Radiologists (AUR) as well as the Radiology Alliance for Health Services Research, and she has been a member of the AUR board of directors since 2006.
