After failing to pass the U.S. House of Representatives prior to the end of the last Congress, a bill designed to ensure credentialing of radiologic and radiation therapy technologists was reintroduced on January 19.
Now called the Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility, and Excellence in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy bill (CARE), the bill was introduced by Rep. Mike Doyle, D-PA. H.R. 583 was previously known as the Consumer Assurance of Radiologic Excellence (CARE) bill. The leading Republican co-sponsor on the bill is Rep. Chip Pickering from Mississippi.
The name of the bill was changed to reflect the global nature of medical imaging, according to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) of Albuquerque, NM.
