The Canadian radiologist whose work in 2009 prompted an audit of approximately 70,000 imaging exams is suing the provincial health minister, the region that formerly employed him, and the regulating body that sanctioned him, according a report in the Saskatoon newspaper StarPhoenix.
Dr. Darius Tsatsi has filed suit against the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan, as well as Sunrise Health Region and Health Minister Don McMorris, the paper reported. The lawsuit was filed last week with the Regina Court of Queen's Bench.
In 2009, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan discovered irregularities during a routine review of Tsatsi's work at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre in Saskatchewan. The college found enough difference in opinion regarding Tsatsi's interpretation of 103 diagnostic cases that it expressed its concerns to the Sunrise Health Region, which oversees Yorkton. A review ensued that included cases Tsatsi read from May to November 2008.
In January 2010, the college barred Tsatsi from practicing. The review of the radiology images subsequently found that about 3% of them were considered to have had the potential to affect patient care, according to the StarPhoenix.
