New Jersey state investigators raided an imaging center in Hackensack on June 17 as part of a probe into alleged Medicare fraud, according to an article by the Cliffview Pilot.
The website reported that investigators raided the headquarters of American Imaging Center in Hackensack, as well as offices in Englewood, Jersey City, Union City, Wayne, and other locations in New Jersey. They arrested the firm's president, Rehan Zuberi, as well as his wife, Humara Paracha. Both are being held on bail. American Imaging Center runs 11 sites in the state.
Zuberi served 10 months in a state prison in the early 2000s after he pleaded guilty to a Medicare scheme in which he took kickbacks for referring blood specimens to a center he ran in Clifton, NJ, as part of a money-laundering arrangement, the Cliffview Pilot reported. Zuberi had been barred from participating in the Medicare system as part of his conviction, but the ban expired three years ago.
