Wanted poster issued for radiologist on the run

The U.S Marshals Service has issued a wanted poster for a Kansas radiologist who failed to show up for a sentencing hearing in connection with a government equipment contracting fraud case in Texas, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.

Dr. Heidi Webster did not appear for a February 6 sentencing hearing in connection with the case, in which she and several other accomplices were accused of running a contracting scheme that defrauded the federal government of $7 million in medical imaging products and services. At a May hearing held in her absence, Webster was sentenced to six years in prison and ordered to repay nearly $614,000, according to an Associated Press article.

Webster and two other defendants were charged with bribing Army personnel at Brooke Army Medical Center to steer contracts to firms they operated as part of an MRI expansion project at Brooke that took place in 2007 and 2008. In January 2014, Webster pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government, according to the article on CJonline.com, the website run by the Topeka Capital-Journal.

The wanted poster for Webster states that she is a member of the "sovereign citizens" movement, which holds that the U.S. government is illegitimate and that individuals are not obligated to pay taxes or obey U.S. laws, the article states. On several occasions during previous hearings, Webster was held in contempt of court by reportedly interrupting the judge, and she was ordered to serve additional jail time.

The wanted poster issued this month states that Webster has ties to the Manhattan and Junction City areas in Kansas, and that residents in those areas may have information that could lead to her arrest.
