A radiologist from Rochester, NY, has pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud charges related to double-billing for x-rays, according to federal authorities.
Dr. Thomas F. Stephenson pleaded guilty to committing healthcare fraud and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000. He is scheduled to be sentenced in November.
Stephenson owned and operated Westside Imaging in Rochester. Federal investigators charged that from January 2007 to April 2010, he engaged in a scheme to defraud Medicare, Excellus Health, and MVP Health by double-billing for some x-rays. Authorities believe the fraudulent bills totaled $136,000.
