A radiologist and state senator in West Virginia has been charged with indecent exposure and disorderly conduct after an August 4 incident at an establishment called Gumby’s Cigarette & Beer World in Glen Dale, the Associated Press (AP) reported August 14.

Michael Maroney, 56, was arrested on the two misdemeanors after an incident in which employees of the establishment saw him allegedly “committing an act of sexual gratification” about 1 p.m. in the establishment’s video lottery room, the AP said.

Maroney, a Republican senator who has served the senate since 2016, has also reportedly been stripped of his legislative title as Health and Human Resources chair, as well as all other committee responsibilities. After being defeated in the primary in May, Maroney has just a few months left in his second four-year term, according to AP.

Maroney received his doctoral degree from Marshall University School of Medicine and completed a residency in diagnostic radiology in 1998 and a fellowship in neuroradiology in 1999 at the University of Maryland, according to a U.S. News and World Report profile.
