The International Association of Medical Equipment Remarketers and Servicers (IAMERS) said it applauds President Obama's efforts to encourage U.S. companies to trade with Africa, and it is calling on select African countries to lower trade barriers to permit increased U.S. exports of preowned medical imaging equipment.
IAMERS said its members are ready to provide preowned imaging equipment to Africa, but some African countries such as Ghana, Guinea, Senegal, and Tanzania have procurement policies that restrict or discourage the purchase of preowned medical equipment, according to the organization.
In a statement, Diana Upton, IAMERS' president and executive director, said she hopes the U.S. government will tie newly announced initiatives in U.S. financing to a reduction in the trade barriers of African countries for the sale of preowned medical equipment.
