The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA), part of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), has published new guidelines for refurbishing medical electrical equipment.
The standard is titled NEMA/MITA 1-2015 Good Refurbishment Practices for Medical Electrical Equipment. MITA adapted practices put forth by the European Coordination Committee of the Radiological, Electromedical, and Healthcare IT Industry (COCIR) to provide a reference for regulators, customers, refurbishers, and manufacturers.
The goal is to establish basic requirements on how to refurbish medical electrical equipment so as not to change the equipment's original intended use, safety profile, or performance.
The guidelines can be downloaded for free at NEMA's website.
