Dear AuntMinnie Member,
As we near next week's American College of Cardiology meeting, what better time to announce a fresh new look for our Cardiac Imaging Digital Community.
The new design highlights the increasingly important role that medical imaging technologies are playing in diagnosing and treating cardiac ailments. From stalwart modalities like echocardiography and nuclear cardiology to new arrivals like multislice CT, medical imaging is enabling physicians to discover heart ailments earlier than ever, in some cases before symptoms even appear.
But cardiac imaging is not without its controversies. The discipline is the subject of an ongoing tug of war between radiology and cardiology, as cardiologists tout the convenience for patients of in-office imaging while radiologists level accusations of physician self-referral. At the same time, the different imaging modalities vie to demonstrate their effectiveness, with the ultimate goal of developing a one-stop shop for cardiac assessment.
AuntMinnie's Cardiac Imaging Digital Community will cover these trends and more. We'll also be bringing you daily updates from the ACC meeting, so be sure to check back starting next week at cardiac.auntminnie.com.
Until then, take a look at a story we're featuring this week from the European Congress of Radiology that compares MDCT and MRI to ultrasound-based modalities for aortic valve measurement, which you can read by clicking here.
On the practice economics side, we're featuring an article on new and revised Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for endovascular repair of the thoracic aorta -- get the scoop by clicking here.
See you in Atlanta!
