Dear Orthopedic Imaging Insider,
In our previous Insider, we looked at the value of MRI and ultrasound for assessing tenosynovitis, skier's thumb, and vascular flow. Today's Insider Exclusive article offers a different perspective on wrist imaging -- MR arthrography for triangular fibrocartilage tears and instability. Click here to learn more.
In another article, investigators with the Knee Osteoarthritis Structural Arthritis (KOSTAR) study used x-ray to demonstrate that bisphosphonate does not slow disease progression, although it does seem to reduce pain.
Also, check out results from the Fracture Intervention Trial (FIT) Long-term Extension (FLEX) study on postmenopausal osteoporosis treated with alendronate. Speaking of fracture risk, U.K. researchers found that long-term treatment with proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) was associated with an increased risk of hip fracture, while another group determined that treatment for endometriosis did not up a woman's fracture risk.
Last but not least, be sure to come back to the Orthopedic Imaging Digital Community later this month for reports from the Pebble Beach Course on Orthopedic Imaging. Topics scheduled for discussion include hip MR, imaging around orthopedic hardware, and knee MRI.
