The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) said that its National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) will provide an estimated $11 million over the next five years to create two new Biomedical Technology Research Centers (BTRCs).
The two centers will provide researchers in the U.S. with access to specialized research tools, training, and state-of-the-art equipment, according to the NIH. One center will develop imaging techniques designed specifically to better diagnose and treat diseases such as Alzheimer's, the NIH said.
The second center will create software for identifying and analyzing sets of interacting proteins important in a wide range of disease such as cancer. The centers are being established at the Northern California Institute for Research and Education in San Francisco and the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
