Endoscopic system developer SightLine Technologies of Haifa, Israel, has received Food and Drug Administration marketing clearance for its ColonoSight system.
The product is operated using a miniature video camera and light source that is inserted into the colon in order to locate polyps and growths. It also utilizes a proprietary IntraPull technology that pulls the device into the colon, as compared with a standard colonoscopy examination, in which the operator is required to push the device, SightLine said.
ColonoSight features a disposable sheath, which eliminates the need for disinfection between procedures, saving time and increasing physician throughput, according to the firm. The system also enables treatment of growths in the colon, and can be used to remove polyps, the company said.
