Swedish bone densitometry developer Demetech has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its DXL Calscan bone densitometer.
DXL Calscan employs the Stockholm-based vendor's DXA + laser measurement (DXL) technique. DXA + estimates bone mineral density (BMD) using the conventional dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) approach, but also adds laser measurement of the region of interest.
Performing laser measurement enables calculation and exclusion of patient-specific adipose tissue (fat) variations from results, Demetech said.
