Canadian digital radiography (DR) developer Imaging Dynamics (IDC) of Calgary has received a patent for dual-energy imaging on DR systems.
IDC received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for an optically coupled DR method and apparatus. The system is designed to simultaneously obtain two distinct images of the same subject, each representing a different part of the x-ray energy spectrum. The two images can be combined in different ways so that anatomical features can be separated from one another to provide a clearer view of structures, such as bone and soft tissue.
IDC believes that its charge-coupled device (CCD) DR technology confers benefits for dual-energy imaging not found on flat-panel-based DR systems.
