Interventional technology firm Medtronic of Minneapolis has received clearance in Japan for its cardiac monitor, the company reported.
Medtronic's Reveal DX Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) is the first insertable cardiac monitor to be introduced in Japan, according to Medtronic. It helps clinicians diagnose syncope, or unexplained fainting episodes, which are often too infrequent and unpredictable for detection with devices such as electrocardiogram Holter monitors or external loop recorders. Reveal DX ICM is inserted just under the skin of the chest and can monitor patients for up to three years. Occurrences of arrhythmias are recorded and saved.
Medtronic Japan will begin marketing Reveal DX ICM once it has received insurance reimbursement for it. The company will partner with Asahi Kasei for exclusive sales and distribution rights in Japan, Medtronic said.
