Dear MRI Insider,
The incidence of concussion in children has increased over the years, and some research suggests that there are differences between concussed girls and boys, with girls experiencing more severe and longer-lasting symptoms.
But whether there are sex differences in the neuropathy of concussion in children -- that is, resting-state functional brain activity disturbances -- has remained unclear. In this edition's Insider Exclusive, we're highlighting research on the topic presented in London at the recent International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) meeting.
Once you've read the exclusive, check out other articles we've posted recently in the MRI Community, including a full roster of stories and videos from ISMRM 2022 (the list below represents only a fraction of our coverage!):
- 11.7-tesla MR spectroscopy can quantify brain glucose metabolism.
- MRI radiomics helps categorize types of inflammatory bowel disease.
- Diffusion-weighted MRI classifies breast lesions.
- MRI bests CT for detecting ovarian cancer.
- MRI shows that first responders to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with post-traumatic stress disorder are vulnerable to cognitive impairment as they age.
