The Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography has helped create industry standards for the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) in sonography. The project, which was chaired by ergonomic expert Joan Baker, included contributions from professional organizations, equipment manufactures, as well as credentialing, accreditation, and government agencies, according to SDMS.
The Plano, TX-based society said that the standards, which include equipment, administrative, and professional control measures, are intended to assist all employees, employers, educators, and equipment manufacturers in making informed decisions. The standards can be found on the SDMS Web site at: http://www.sdms.org/pdf/wrmsd2003.pdf.
