AuntMinnie.com Ultrasound Radiology Insider

Dear Ultrasound Insider,

A serial ultrasound exam isn't needed to exclude clinically significant deep venous thrombosis (DVT); a complete lower limb compression ultrasound can handle the job, according to researchers from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Presenting their findings at the 2004 RSNA meeting in Chicago, the researchers reported that a complete lower limb compression ultrasound exam yielded specificity and negative predictive value of 99.8% from a prospective study involving 542 patients.
