Philips Medical Systems of Andover, MA, has introduced a series of new technologies and products as part of its Vision 2007 and Performance 2007 programs of ultrasound hardware and software upgrades.
Enhancements under the Vision 2007 program for the company's flagship iU22 scanner include the introduction of iSlice, an image slicing application that provides views of volumetric data from either freehand or mechanical transducer sweeps, or from the company's xMatrix electronic volumetric transducer. A new Protocols feature uses a template to automatically annotate images based on the lab or clinician's personal preferences, thus improving staff productivity, according to the company.
The Vision 2007 upgrade on iU22 also includes a new suite of clinical capabilities for interventional procedures, such as new interventional tissue-specific imaging (TSI) settings for the C5-2, S4-1, X3-1 and V6-2 transducers. The settings are optimized for needle visualization, faster and easier biopsy procedures, and image-guided liver ablation.
Other new Vision 2007 enhancements for iU22 include the D2tcd transducer for adult transcranial Doppler imaging and the L15-7io transducer for intraoperative vascular, superficial vascular, and musculoskeletal applications. Philips has also made TSI enhancements for its S5-1 PureWave transducer.
On the iE33 echocardiography scanner, the company is introducing an X7-2 transducer that combines xMatrix technology with PureWave crystal technology into a compact size for real-time pediatric 3D echo exams. Also new is a parametric imaging capability in the QLab 3DQ Advanced quantification software.
The Performance 2007 package for the HD11 XE scanner includes Invert imaging, a volume display method that allows the direct visualization of anechoic structures such as the chambers and major vessels of the fetal heart. Color Invert enables users to visualize directional blood flow within the inverted volume, the company said, while a new automated stacked contours feature allows the visualization of anechoic structures. The iSlice and Thick Slice display techniques are also now available on HD11 XE under the Performance 2007 program.
Philips also made enhancements to its HD3 and EnVisor scanners under the programs.
