Infrared Sciences gets FDA nod for infrared breast imaging unit

Infrared Sciences has received Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for its BreastScan IR digital infrared imaging system.

Designed to aid in the early detection of breast cancer, BreastScan IR provides doctors with an automated, real-time report for use as an adjunctive test with mammography, ultrasound, or clinical examination, according to the Hauppauge, NY-based firm. Infrared Sciences said it provides BreastScan IR at no up-front cost to qualified doctors, charging a small fee each time the system is used.
