Able Software releases new 3D Doctor

Three-dimensional-software developer Able Software of Lexington, MA, has issued a new release of its 3D Doctor image visualization, rendering, and measurement software for CT, MRI, microscopy, and scientific images. The update includes a texture-based automated 3-D image segmentation function that supports both color and grayscale images.

The product generates 3-D models from object boundaries and exports them to a 3-D format, including VRML, IGES, 3DS, DXF, OBJ, and STL, as well as other formats for 3-D visualization and medical modeling

Other improvements include additional 3-D measurement functions that measure length and digitize point locations of a 3-D surface model. In addition, interactive 3-D model slicing, cropping, and point-clouds-to-surface model-conversion functions have been implemented, according to the firm.

The application is priced at $4,800 per license for regular use and $2,400 per license to academic users. A fully functional trial version is available at the firm’s Web site.
