The first commercial use in the U.S. of 4DMedical's XV Technology imaging software for analyzing functional lung impairment on fluoroscopy exams has occurred, at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, CA.
XV Technology is a cloud software subscription service cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in May 2020. The software can be implemented immediately using existing hospital x-ray systems and clinical infrastructure, according to the company.
Imaging departments electronically transmit radiographic images collected with existing fluoroscopy equipment to 4DMedical. The software automatically analyzes the images to identify and quantify regional functional impairment in both lungs. The resulting display can help clinicians better understand the patient's current functional state, Providence said.
Doctors are considering the use of 4D scans in treatment plans for patients with long-term COVID, Providence officials added.
Providence St. Joseph Hospital is a 463-bed, not-for-profit Catholic hospital founded in 1929 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange.
