Computer-aided detection developer iCAD has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for a new version of its MammoReader software. The new release improves the software's detection rates for calcifications and masses, yielding an overall sensitivity of 90.5%, according to the Nashua, NH-based firm.
In addition, iCAD said that the new version reduces the total number of suspicious areas in a mammogram by as much as 12.6%, with the marker rate for calcifications cut by up to 25%. The company believes this improved discrimination will improve the utility of the software for radiologists.
