Healthcare IT and advanced visualization developer Merge Healthcare of Milwaukee posted a profit and a slight increase in revenue for the third quarter of 2008 (end-September 30).
For the quarter, Merge recorded revenue of $14.6 million, up 3% compared to $14.1 million for the same period in 2007. Net income was $400,000, compared with a net loss of $141.6 million in the third quarter of 2007. The company attributed the year-ago quarterly loss to a one-time charge for impairment of goodwill and other long-lived assets. The current results compare to a net loss of $18.2 million in the second quarter of 2008.
For the nine months ending September 30, Merge's net sales totaled $41.7 million, a 5% decrease compared to $44 million for the same period in 2007. Net loss for the nine months totaled $25.6 million, compared with a loss of $162 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2007.
