E-Z-EM shows Q2 sales uptick

Contrast agent and virtual colonoscopy developer E-Z-EM reported fiscal 2005 second-quarter net sales from continuing operations of $26.2 million, up 4% compared with $25.3 million for the same period last year (end-November 29, 2003).

For the current period (end-November 27), the Lake Success, NY-based firm had net earnings of $1.4 million, a slight downturn compared with net earnings of $1.8 million in the fiscal 2004 second quarter. The decline reflects increased operating expenses partially related to its costs of $800,000 to shift production of its powdered barium products from a Westbury, NY, facility to its main production plant in Canada, E-Z-EM said.

For the first half of the fiscal year, net sales were $50.2 million, up 5% compared with $47.9 million in the first half of last fiscal year. For the first two quarters of 2005, the company posted net earnings of $2.7 million, a solid gain from the $1.5 million posted in the prior-year period.
