NorthStar inks NNSA deal for Mo-99

NorthStar Medical Radioisotopes has signed a $4.6 million agreement with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) to advance the development of its technology to produce molybdenum-99 (Mo-99) in the U.S. without highly enriched uranium.

The pact will help NorthStar develop site and architectural plans for a Mo-99-producing facility in Beloit, WI, and begin licensing and permitting activities.

According to a report in the Janesville Gazette, construction is expected to start next year, with Mo-99 production beginning in 2013. The venture will create more than 150 jobs by 2016.
