Best Theratronics of Ottawa, Ontario, has unveiled plans to manufacture a line of cyclotrons to produce diagnostic and therapeutic medical isotopes for use with PET, SPECT, and other therapy-related applications.
The company will also explore partnerships with hospitals, clinics, medical and research institutions, and distributors to supply the isotopes.
Best Theratronics' technology is applicable for five different types of cyclotrons, with the cyclotrons designed to produce different types of medical isotopes.
The B14 cyclotron would produce technetium-99m, while the B25 and B35 cyclotrons are designed for SPECT radioisotopes, such as iodine-123 and thallium-201.
The B70 cyclotron would manufacture radioisotopes for PET, such as strontium-82, and large quantities of therapeutic isotopes, such as copper-67.
