Radioisotope manufacturer International Isotopes has received U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval of the final environmental impact statement (EIS) for its planned depleted uranium deconversion and fluorine extraction processing facility.
The approval represents the last major milestone preceding the NRC's issuance of a construction and operating license for International Isotopes' planned facility. The company first submitted its license application in December 2009.
Based upon the final EIS publication date, International Isotopes anticipates that the NRC will issue the license for the New Mexico facility around the first week of October.
