Siemens Healthineers expects to release software updates to address security concerns in some of its molecular imaging systems by the end of August, according to a report published August 7 by Reuters.
Last week, Siemens and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT) issued security advisories regarding security vulnerabilities in the vendor's molecular imaging products running on Windows XP or Windows 7. The affected products include all Windows XP or Windows 7-based versions of its PET/CT, SPECT/CT, and SPECT systems, as well as the company's SPECT Workplaces/Symbia.net workstation, according to the advisories.
While Siemens had initially advised customers to disconnect the scanners until an update was released, a company spokesperson told Reuters that after further review, it no longer believed disconnecting the scanners was necessary. The spokesman also said that no evidence of any attack had been found, according to the article.
