Dr. Carolyn Meltzer of Emory University has been named as dean of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC).

Image courtesy of USC.Meltzer has been chair of Emory's department of radiology and imaging sciences for the past 15 years, and she has also served as executive associate dean of faculty academic advancement, leadership, and inclusion. Additionally, she has served as the university's chief diversity and inclusion officer.
Meltzer has specialized in neuroradiology and nuclear medicine and has conducted research into brain structure and function, particularly during the aging process. She also has a research interest in cancer imaging.
Meltzer was associate dean for research at Emory University from 2005 to 2019 and led the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research as president. She also served on the National Advisory Council for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering.
The Keck School of Medicine was founded in 1885 and has 2,300 full-time and part-time faculty members, as well as 2,000 staff members and 1,400 students, according to the university. The institution encompasses 26 basic and clinical academic programs as well as 16 major research institutes; some 1,200 residents train in over 70 specialty or subspecialty programs at the school.
