Urological treatment device manufacturer EDAP TMS has signed an R&D agreement with Siemens Medical Engineering for development of EDAP's high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology for the treatment of breast cancer. Under this agreeement, EDAP and Siemens will jointly develop a research program and clinical trials aimed at treating breast tumors using MRI visualization and EDAP's HIFU technology. Heidelberg and Iena Universities will collaborate with the two vendors on the project, according to Vaulx-en-Velin, France-based EDAP. Erlangen, Germany-based Siemens will fund 50% of the costs of the development program.
