GE releases Signa upgrade

GE Medical Systems has released version 8.3 of its Signa MRI software. The new release targets productivity improvements, including faster times for prescan, fast spin echo (FSE), and fast gradient-recalled echo (FGRE) studies. A "picture this" feature provides technologists with more than 1,500 application-specific protocols. The basic Signa 8.3 software is available at no additional charge to users of the vendor’s Signa LX scanner.

In addition, users will be able to purchase optional upgrades that the Waukesha, WI-based vendor said will lead to more reimbursable procedures. One technique, iDrive Pro, allows physicians to change image geometry and contrast in real time.

Another upgrade, SmartPrep 2000, is an automated contrast-enhanced MR angiography package that incorporates GE’s SmartStep technology, providing automated table motion for whole-body peripheral vascular studies. The elliptic-centric feature, along with iDrive Pro, allows physicians to perform dependable contrast-enhanced carotid MRA, according to GE.
