Hitachi Medical Systems America has received final 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its Altaire high-field performance open MR imaging system, the company announced today.
Altaire combines high-field performance with the advantages of open MRI to deliver optimal image quality and patient comfort, according to Twinsburg, OH-based Hitachi. Its imaging capabilities include single-shot EPI, diffusion-weighted EPI, RF fat saturation, MRA with very short TEs, and FSE with short inter-echo times, Hitachi said.
In addition, the scanner's passively shielded design contains the 5-Gauss magnetic fringe field within an 18 x 22-foot scan room, reducing the time and cost required to prepare a site, according to Sheldon Schaffer, the company's vice president and general manager of magnetic resonance. Altaire will be on display in Chicago at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America later this month.
